Matt began studying in the style of Henry Angelo’s Military Saber in 2017. From there, he explored a wide variety of sources from Simon de Frías’ sabre treatise on Destreza to “modern” fencers like Aldo Nadi. In 2022, he turned his focus to the Bolognese traditions of 16th century Sidesword, specializing in the treatises of Achille Marozzo and Giovanni dall’Aggochie.
He works with Bridge City Blades in Portland, Oregon as the head instructor for both their saber and sidesword programs in addition to providing private instruction.
For the continuation his own development and training, Matt is an apprentice of Martin Höppner of Schildwache Potsdam while also studying under the guidance of Maestro Ton Puey of Academia da Espada.
